GNU has hand built snowboards in the U.S.A since 1977 and when they started, the snowboarding scene was just starting out, some ski hills frowned upon it, so they thought they might as well go a bit crazy in the process! The concept meant you could be as creative as possible, and have a bit of fun, manufacturing boards with mysterious materials, weird shaping, far out colours and artworks, but they didn’t realise they were shaping the art of snowboarding in the industry and paving way for some of the best technology in boards available today!
The profiles used today are shaped off their B-Tech (Banana) taking advantage of the precision with camber, but the comfortability of rocker. Their most notable addition to their boards and skis is the magne-traction, utilising the sidewalls by adding more contact points, almost like a serrated edge. No matter the conditions, magne-traction will grip in ice and powder, in and out of turns with catch-free riding. Finally, some models of GNU also come with an asymmetrical core, where two different woods make up a softer and harder side to the core, creating an easy ride on heel and toe edge. GNU is a force to be reckoned with in the industry and every year get more and more popular with their sick profiles and sweet designs.
