Common Features of Winter Jackets and Pants

The features in jackets and pants differ in every brand and every style within that brand, however the different features should help you decide what jacket you want to pick up for your next trip. Here is a quick run down of the features you should expect to see in the Roxy range that you should really consider in your new jacket and how each feature can benefit you.

Please note that terminology and the way each brand executes these features is vastly different and you should use this blog as a guide only.


1 – 3-Way Adjustable Hood  – Provides versatility to fit any helmet.

2 – Hood with Wire Visor

3 – Helmet Compatible Hood – Compatible with most helmets on the market for those extra snowy days.

4 – Sleeve Pass Pocket – Holds your pass and makes it easier in lift lines.

5 – Media Pocket – Stores your phone/music device in a waterproof pocket and has a hole for you to thread your earphones through.

6 – Internal Lycra Wrist Gaiters w/ Thumbhole – Provides extra protection from the snow. Jackets may or may not come with this features, depends on the brand and sometimes the price point. Also not all internal lycra wrist gaiters come with thumbholes.

7 – Powder Skirt System – A powder skirt is a feature you should expect to see in every jacket you look at as it provides protection from snow getting in. You will find different systems of powder skirts (snap-away, zip off, fixed) depending on the brand but any jacket you buy should have a powder skirt.

8 – 3D Stretch Fixed Powder Skirt – Fixed powder skirt which means it cannot be removed; this varies from jacket to jacket, brand to brand.

9 – Jacket to Pant Attachment System – Not 100% necessary for every jacket to have but if you know that you are going to be shredding deep powder, it is a great system that protects you even more from snow getting into areas you don’t want it.

10 – Internal Goggle Pocket – Great pocket to store your goggles in before or after your day on the slopes and will hold your extra lens while skiing for those unpredictable days.

11 – Lens Cleaner – Convenient for when you goggles get a little snowy and you need a clean, dry wipe.


12 – Underarm Mesh Lined Venting – Provides ventilation for those hotter days.

13 – Removable ENJOY & CARE Neckwarmer – Relates only to Roxy products and is a moisturising neckwarmer that provides relief from dry skin on those brutally cold days.

14 – YKK Aquaguard Zipper – Quality zips to provide extra waterproofing.

15 – Coahesive Hood Zipper – Not in conjunction with all brands and jackets.

16 – Waist Adjustment – Acts as an in built belt.

17 – Jacket to Pant Attachment System – This is the point where you would attach your jacket to help prevent snow getting in places you don’t want it to.

18 – Hem Lift Up System – Keeps your pants from letting snow in or fraying when walking.

19 – Zipped Bottom Leg Gusset – Keeps your pants from letting snow in or fraying when walking

20 – Leg Mesh Lined Venting – Provides ventilation for those hotter days.

21 – Bottom Hem Reinforcement – For extra protection from fraying.

22 – Taffeta Boot Gaiters – Extra layer of protection to ensure that snow does not get into your pants via the bottom.

23 – Ticket Holder – Holds your ticket for easy access.
