RECORD LOW TEMPERATURES IN EUROPE Everyone has seen the news bulletins; unprecedented snow falls in the UK and record breaking low temperatures all over Europe. Many of our customers are planning overseas holidays this northern winter, so we have been busy helping them with their layers. There are quite a few options for your base layer, namely polypropylene which is very breathable, worn close to the body and usually quite inexpensive. The down side to polypropylene is that it does hold odor and needs to be washed regularly. Another really warm base layer is merino wool, which is the warmest, still breathable and does not hold odor. Wool thermals are usually the most expensive. We also have a few breathable polyester thermals which are usually the mid range warmth factor. A mid weight wool thermal top, over the base layer is a great way to increase warmth without increasing bulk. We have a good range of mid layers such as some thicker breathable polyester tops, micro fleece vests or dri tec tops. For the next layer a breathable half or full zip fleece or micro fleece are perfect. Everyone feels the cold differently however it’s a good idea to have some layers ready for those really chilly days. Don’t forget your thermal glove liners and neck warmers all very essential for Northern Hemisphere riding. Don’t forget, no cotton in your layers for the Mountain!
